Coalition To Face Wrath: 1984 Blue Wave?

Liberals look to max-out the Canadian taxpayer credit card with billions while partner NDP leader suggests Canadians should have low-fee credit cards? Do the NDP strategist understand low interest credit cards already exist? “If we want Quebec to become a country we have to have a majority in Ottawa representing Quebecers and we also have to have a sovereignist government in Quebec,” Duceppe said. Any wonder why Canadians are turned off by the out of touch politicians?

A telltale sign the opposition parties are in trouble is where they are spending time and who they attack. The Liberals are visiting ridings they currently hold and lost in 2008. Are Liberals stuck in defending Toronto, Montreal and lower mainland in BC? The NDP and Bloc look to pick off the Liberals in the lower mainland BC and Montreal.
Big Red Machine: How the Liberal Party Dominates Canadian Politics

Shrewd political judgment had not become endemic to the Martinites, as they showed the following October when they refused to make another deal with Jack Layton. Layton was pressing for more commitments on health care in return for helping the Liberals beat off another expected Conservative non-confi dence attack. It was not for lack of money, as Finance Minister Goodale demonstrated a few weeks later with the $39 billion in spending commitments that he announced in his Economic and Fiscal Update of November 14. Clearly the men and women running the Martin shop felt they could call Stephen Harper’s bluff and take to the hustings. This was not to be the only sign of the Martin group’s overconfi dence, but it was the crucial miscalculation that abandoned its much safer position in government and exposed it to the vicissitudes of electoral combat when the media would give as much coverage to the three opposition parties’ attacks on the governing party as to its pleas for continued public support.

...under Michael Ignatieff, the Liberals are in even worse shape going into an election in Quebec than they were under Stéphane Dion in September 2008, when they were at 16 per cent.
The Liberals' 18 per cent score in the Léger poll would break down to about 14 per cent among francophones, still nothing to write home about, but twice their francophone score in the CROP.
But both polls tell essentially the same story - francophone Quebec determines outcomes in about 60 of Quebec's 75 seats, and with scores like these, the Liberals would lose every one of them.

The Conservatives unleash their own secret weapon against the Ignatieff led coalition in a Winnipeg rally. Are the conservatives having too much fun on this campaign? I have watched clips of our PM delivers take out some time to watch a cricket match, play ping pong and perform a duet with a Gaga superfan who has become a celebrity on Youtube and American talkshows. All this publicity can't be good for the strategists in the coalition. The coalition chatter continues as defections and endorsements are making their rounds in the Ontario battleground.

Popular candidates are coming out for the Conservatives  in the 905 and 416,  Mississauga-Brampton. A game changer in Newfoundland as our PM delivers on the promise to provide loans for Lower Churchill Falls. the emergence of Loyola Sullivan, John Ottenheimer and, quite possibly, Trevor Taylor as federal Conservative candidates, we could see three of Williams' former cabinet ministers running on a Harper-led ticket. At least two possibly three seats are up for grabs? This project will assist the Atlantic provinces and the north eastern states lower their use of fossil fuel. Anyone expect May or Suzuki to heap praise?
In the past five days I have been watching our PM take time out  in his campaign to remind us about the Liberal coallition and their tax and spend partners much to the chagrin of the Liberal friendly media. They seem to have difficulty with the Conservative messaging and warning to Canadians about the failed coup in 2008. In December Ignatieff signalled he would not support any Conservative budget. The Bloc followed up with a five billion dollar pay-off to avoid an election. The NDP almost waited for the finance minister to read the budget before signalling they would not be able to support the additional spending of nearly two billion as not enough.

The media should be careful about picking their winners. Canadians expect unbiased coverage from the news outlets. The opinions shows should be clear about their partisan views.

Conservative Majority: Taxpayers Message

[1] Ekos Politics October 15, 2009 Tories Consolidate Lead http://www.ekospolitics.ca/

Angus Reid Strategies provided another marker that reinforced the Ekos Politics snapshot leading up to the rout of the Liberals in the four by elections a few weeks later. Angus was the most accurate pollster in predicting the results in the 40th general election.
Angus snapshot pointed to the fact 40 per of decided voters would cast a ballot for a Conservative candidate in their riding if a federal election took place today. The Liberals placed a distant second at 26 per cent.
On the Economy and trust the Liberals did not make the case for replacing the incumbent in 2009. Half of Canadians (50%) are satisfied with the reaction of the federal government to the economic crisis. Forty-four per cent either completely or moderately trust the PM Stephen Harper to do the right thing to help the economy recover.
Only 25% feel the same way about the Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff. This is the second time the Conservatives hit the forty per cent threshold as the Liberals beat the election drums with the incredulous statement of Harper, your time is up threat

Are seventy-six questions on the Afghanistan prisoner treatment-transfer more pressing the our Economy and Jobs in December 2009?

A committee on the Afghanistan mission was hi-jacked to provide an opportunity for partisan positioning over the handling of captured prisoners. How many Canadians were being asked to subscribe without proof our government, civil servants, military were covering up war crimes?

Fast forward to another four by elections in 2010 did the Liberals or the left take any lessons from their failures in 2009? The Conservatives picked up another two seats including a long held Liberal riding just north of Toronto. The full court press failed and taxpayers rejected the Liberal brand.

Fantino, Taxpayers reject Liberals for Conservatives
Fantino is the celebrity choice. Many voters told the Star they feel comfortable with his name recognition, a plus for federal Conservatives, who could strip away this longtime Liberal riding and advance their march to the glittering Grit prize of Toronto.- Linda Diebel Toronto Star

We are now day four in a thirty-six day campaign with the opposition promising to spend more taxpayers money as if it will be a free lunch. Taxpayers have been firing the tax and spend Liberals in Europe, the United States, New Brunswick and most recently in Toronto with the election of Rob Ford as Mayor.

2011 Taxpayers Crush Liberal tax and spend brand
Kelly McParland wit on display:

For Toronto’s urban sophisticates, it was a wipe-out. Total repudiation. Worse than the time they ran out of well-oaked chardonnay at Vintages. What are they supposed to do now, move to Calgary? Buy a leaf blower, for Chrissake? Any day now they’ll be erecting barriers at Pusateri’s, checking IDs. No one gets in without a credit card from Home Depot.
Wearily they munched their almond biscottis and totted up the devastation. Someone would have to contact the holistic, non-profit communal bike-sharing project and warn them the grand opening, scheduled for January, would be delayed.- National Post
His message was widely panned by the traditional media outlets and the taxpayers ended the debate with eight minutes after the ballots were counted. Are the media outlets based in Toronto and Ottawa out of touch with the taxpayers? We already can see the opposition politicans are for returning to the polls for a fourth time in seven years. Why are the Liberals still not listening to the taxpayer?

Taxpayers across Canada are going to show up will Ignatieff's seat be in play?

Ignatieff's Coalition Answer: Do-over

Ignatieff should stop using the phrase "Let's be clear" when starting to explain something because it has the opposite effect for those listening to his answer.
Ignatieff March 26, 2011

"We will not enter a coalition with other federalist parties," Ignatieff said in the statement. "In our system, coalitions are a legitimate constitutional option. However, I believe that issue-by-issue collaboration with other parties is the best way for minority Parliaments to function."
"We categorically rule out a coalition or formal arrangement with the Bloc Québécois."

Ignatieff March 25, 2011

The coalition do over is a response the absolute failure in being absolutely clear on his rhetoric regarding the coalition agreement signed in 2008 and his promise to lead if necessary.  The Liberal MPs found it appropriate to ridicule the parliamentary press in their asking for clarity on his commitment to not enter into a power sharing coalition with the NDP and coalition. A simple no under any circumstances would have worked in December 2008 but now Canadians are skeptical for good reason.

"The Liberal Party wants to talk about contempt," Conservative House Leader John Baird said in the Commons Friday. "It is the Liberal Party that is demonstrating contempt for the Canadian electorate.
"It has said that it will not accept the results of the next election and it wants to form a coalition government with the NDP and the Bloc. The worst part of that contempt is those members will not be open and honest and transparent with the Canadian people."
After leading a historic vote that pulled the plug on Harper's second minority government, Ignatieff was asked by journalists six times whether he would rule out forming a coalition government. Six times, he refused to answer. -March 25, 2011 Vancouver Sun

Ignatieff December 2008

Yet ambiguity remains. The release is very specific that the no-coalition commitment applies in the event the party that wins the most seats is called on to form the government. It is clear that, if the Liberals are first past the post and can’t gain the confidence of the House, then Mr. Harper would be called on to form the government.-National Post
Ignatieff in March 2009

Moreover, it would have been very difficult to assure the country of the certainty and stability it needed in a time of crisis “with three partners in a formal coalition,” he said, likening it, CP reports, to a rickety three-legged stool. “That was my first doubt. I couldn’t guarantee the long-term stability of the coalition.”
Especially when, as he told an interviewer back in March, one of the partners was a separatist party. “I could be sitting here as your prime minister, but . . . I didn’t think it was right for someone who believes in the national unity of my country to make a deal with people who want to split the country up.”
So let’s see: the coalition was divisive, illegitimate, unstable, and wrong—a formal pact with a separatist party that would have guaranteed them, in the words of the accord to which the three opposition leaders affixed their signatures, a “permanent consultation mechanism” in the government of Canada. Or pretty much what all of the coalition’s critics said at the time.- Ignatieff, from both sides of his mouth

Can we trust him? Which Iggy is behind what promise? Which Ignatieff statement do we trust?

Ignatieff Vision: Two Party Race

After losing two of three by elections on November 29, 2010 Ignatieff has decided “The next election is shaping up as a clear, two-way choice”.  (Stop laughing, its true)
Attacking human smuggling has been a consistent Conservative theme since the last boat arrived off the coast of BC. Jason Kenney is insisting that this bill will go forward, regardless of the fact that it might be defeated. Kenney is a very smart operator. He has spent the last few years working our various new Canadian communities. He better than anyone else in the government, knows best how these communities will respond if it comes down to an election on this issue.- Keith Beardsley
If the Government makes Bill C-49 a confidence matter ,which political party is most likely to get punished at the polls?
Globe & Mail Poll October 24, 2010
Is this a trap for Conservative government to pull the plug, does Ignatieff believe his own hype that the NDP won't recover their support in a General election? The same newspaper that polled 80% in favour of punishing Canadians with fines. This is the same parliament that votes to pass the CPC agenda for the last five years but complain they don't like the policies.
  • 209 votes with CPC+Liberals on Afghanistan training against Bloc+NDP
  • 170 votes with CPC+Bloc on F35 Jets against Lib+NDP

Has the coalition leadership finally outmaneuvered itself?

Media Shift Goalposts: "Will of Parliament"

Noontime protest on Parliament Hill in support...Media Protect Liberal-NDP coalition

Why is the media unwilling to call out the defeated and absent MPs? Does the term "Will of Parliament" only apply  if used by Liberals-NDP supported policies?

Respect for "Will of Parliament" does not apply to Coalition?
A large majority of MPs defeated the Liberal motion to have the government drop the plans of the purchase of the F35. The Liberal-NDP coalition were only able to field 100 MPs to show up for their vote.  At full strength the 115 Lib-NDP MPs would be unable to block the deal.

The vote on the Liberal motion was defeated in the Commons by a vote of 170-100, with Bloc MPs lining up en masse with the Conservative minority government.

The Liberals continue to run internet ads complaining about the F35 decision after losing the vote in parliament.

"Will of Parliament"  = Liberal +NDP Policy?
Why is the outcry from the media against the Liberal-NDP coalition for not respecting the "Will of Parliament" as they did during the Census?

Jack & Gilles Flip Ignatieff on Afghanistan

Summer Tour Liberal Training @ Webers
From burgers to Afghanistan, Liberals have it covered. There is not a policy or principle the Liberals won't flip flop to keep their partners happy. It is safe to say Jack and Gilles are back on the Christmas card list after a few road bumps on keeping the coalition together.

The Bloc Québécois will use its opposition day on Thursday to call for a vote on the post-2011 phase of Canada's mission in Afghanistan, which is to focus on training of Afghan soldiers, rather than combat, and continue until 2014.

The Bloc have NEVER supported the mission including the extension. Ignatieff can flip a decision as easily as a burger?

After all Ignatieff has been carrying  the pail for his partners for months.

Bill C 440 Sanctuary Dies with Liberals MIA

Liberals skip another motion they co-sponsored: Flip-flop?
Sanctuary: Liberals Missing In Action!
The Liberals have an interesting manner in which they support each other. Bill C440 died on second reading, it was designed to give legal protection/residence to approximately two hundred American asylum seekers for desertion in military service in the United States.

Kennedy soon after dropping out of the 2006 Li...
This Bill was introduced in a joint party effort by 2006 leadership candidate "oops wrong field" Gerrard Kennedy (Liberal) and Bill Saskay (NDP). The vote died because seventeen Liberals missed a vote (22% 17/75). The thirty seven NDP MPs were all present, the Bloc had 5 absent, one paired with Conservatives. This is the second time Gerrard Kennedy has been left holding the bag for a motion that was intitially supported by Ignatieff.
Is Ignatieff trying to punish former leadership candidates with absent Liberal MP's? Someone should ask Bob about the abortion vote.

Ekos Research Questions Miss Clarity?

No urgency among the bulk of Canadians in any province including with the bulk of voters to visit the Polls in Fall 2010 is something the media won't be reporting from the information on the Ekos Research September 30, 2010.The SPIN will be is the Coalition has gained support. Is it possible the questions being asked are misleading or the analysis from the media is lacking context on how campaigns and parliament work?

Dance Partner
The Poll conducted by Ekos Research regarding coalitions was not clear, it did NOT include the word majority, dependent on the Bloc? Many of us believe for a coalition to be considered legit, it must include the winning party with the most seats. I have asked this question to hundreds of people including Liberal  partisans for an example of the number one party being excluded in a Western democracy. I only heard crickets.

Jon Stewart making fun of 46% for PM Stephen Harper vs Pres. George Bush
Landslide for Conservatives
Nearly 46% of Canadians in December 2008 were upset with the secret negotiations  that culminated in a deal to give the Bloc and Dion control of Parliament? Does the media and partisans for Liberals and Democrats believe Canadians have changed their mind? Comedy Network clip with Liberal leaning Jon Stewart comparing how popular the Conservative government led by PM Stephen Harper was similar to past president Bill Clinton and unlike President George Bush?

Jon Stewart reacting to a George W. Bush clip ...
Jon Stewart criticized George Bush on Comedy Show on a regular basis

Coalition Issue on campaign (Truth in politics)
The Liberals passed the clarity act and it requires a clear question regarding a referendum. Canadians were NOT given the option of Liberal NDP coalition in Canada propped up with Separatists in 2008 during the campaign. Conservatives will present that option for voters with the mainstream MEDIA and Liberal-NDP trying to run away or deny it is on the table as a likely option if the election results for 2008 are repeated? Does the left and the media fear Canadians can't accept or handle the truth?

Election, what election we are not tuned in to BS from the tradition Media- Opposition talking heads.
The poll asks about the timing of the election.  British Columbia has the lowest support for later than Fall 2010 at 61%, Alberta with the highest at 72%. (This means an overwhelming MAJORITY is not interested in switching the current makeup of Parliament.)

Under 25 yrs old support Election in 2010

The under 25 years old demographic at 48% is eager to have an election. This is the only group that is most interested in returning to the polls in the Fall of 2010. This group is the least likely to actually participate in our general election.

Three quarters of Canadians 45-64, 65+ don't want an election in Fall 2010.

The bulk of the voters (45-64) at 72%, (65+) at 78% want it later than the Fall of 2010. No urgency to change government.

Ekos ran another poll between September 8-14,2010. The bulk of Canadian voters ( 45-64, 65+) think Canada is moving in the right direction at forty nine per cent. When everyone (all demographics) are asked about the direction of the Government 41.5% think they are moving in the right direction.

Support for Coalition Government
Q. If you were forced to choose between a Conservative government led by Stephen Harper and a coalition government made of up Liberal and New Democrats and led by Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, which would you prefer?

Question Revised.

If the Conservatives won the largest number of seats but failed to win a majority of 155 seats, would you support a move by Liberal-NDP coalition that was dependent upon the Bloc?

Gilles Duceppe, the Leader of the Bloc Québécois.
Would protect Quebec's interest and control Liberal NDP coalition
Will media tell the truth about how Parliament works? Will they provide context how Gilles Duceppe  through an arrangement have effective control the Liberal-Democrat coalition? Gilles has made it clear, the needs and interest of Quebec are first?

“Michael Ignatieff says coalition governments are ‘perfectly legitimate’ and he'd be prepared to lead one if that's the hand Canadian voters deal him in the next election.(Details after the election)

Canadians are not comfortable with a Quebec separatist party calling the shots, Conservatives don't think so either and the reminder of how the coalition may result in Quebec's control of the federal agenda will be a campaign issue some will run away from. It will provide a large target to attack the Liberals, Democrats and Separatists when an Election is called.

What do you think?

Coalition Manifesto: Three Stooges

Another layer of Coalition Manifesto was peeled back. When will the media ask about the conditions to keep the separatists in line for 18 months? What did Layton have on them?

“The problem is [the Liberals and NDP] had no proposals to face the [economic] crisis. So we said, ‘We made public our proposals three days ago, if you want to use them, use them.’ So they took 85 per cent of that. When they came back with my proposals, I said yes.”

We support Dion as PM
I disagree with Gilles that Dion-Layton did not have massive spending policies in their 2008 campaign platforms, they did. I suggest they had to change them to gain power as your support was necessary.

Prorogue sealed Dion's fate. Ignatieff team pushed democratic contest aside.
The GG granted prorogue five days before the scheduled Christmas holidays. The Liberals under Ignatieff did the predictable thing and remove the Liberal platform from their own website. The Liberals-Democrats simply sold us out. The Liberals made a tactical mistake in passing the Throne Speech and giving the PM confidence.

If Canadians return another Conservative minority, the coalition will only need to reject the Throne Speech to gain control of government. They are entitled to keep their backroom deals private. Canadians will have to decide a Conservative majority or a Coalition led government dependent on Gilles Duceppe.

Ignatieff may have not been comfortable with signing his name last on an agreement giving the Bloc a veto over the coalition. He may have not been comfortable with it being led by a figurehead that reduced the Liberal party to their worst showing in 150 years. Ignatieff could have killed the deal and not signed on the principles he invoked in May 2009 but he chose for the sake of his leadership ambitions to go along with Layton-Duceppe. He failed as a leader and as a unifier.

Nobodys reinforce Trudeau's 1969 musing

Liberals Poll 26%  Chasing Dragons?
In 1969 Pierre Trudeau mused MPs were nobodies 100 feet from Parliament Hill. The  official opposition's refusal to represent their constituents has reduced the Trudeau musing by another 50 feet.
Voters don't care You don't like the current government,  thirty Liberal MPs skip votes on a  regular basis? Present a credible alternative and get on with it. Make your case to the voters if you have the courage of your convictions. Allow the Democrats or Bloc MPs vote in favour of the bad policies you are so critical . What could go wrong?
Author of Harperland is making excuses Angus Poll that confirms Dion support levels for the Liberal since Confederation on September 29, 2010.
The caving of the three Liberal fortresses may have consequences beyond their jurisdictions. Tidings at the provincial level don’t often reverberate with much impact at the federal level. But when the Liberal brand name takes a hit in three great domains in the same time frame, it surely can’t help. It may be among the reasons why Michael Ignatieff is not getting much liftoff despite all his hard work through the summer.-Lawrence Martin
President Kennedy  selling Vietnam military action
One hit wonders-Voters are always right. They will decide if your message is trustworthy.  We may not select the best candidate, the best platform or the best party but we make the final decision. We will decide and pass judgment at the ballot. Ask Joe Clark, Jimmy Carter or Bob Rae.

President Barrack Obama's  approval ratings below 50% at midterm time see their party suffer substantial losses in its congressional membership, regardless of how much explaining and blaming the president attempts in the campaign leading up to what becomes, in effect, a referendum on the president. Democrats (79%) and liberals (75%) still like Obama a lot. - Andrew Malcolm
Voters are very smart and understand how rhetoric, teleprompters are only effective in preaching to the converted. The economy, employment rates do not pick favourites and will punish bad policy regardless of ideology. Look at many of European countries that have changed the socialists governments out for more Conservative leaning agenda.
Why are the opposition afraid to seek a mandate at the Polls during the Global Recession? Is it because their plan is being rejected globally?

Market Confidence: Canadian vs American 2006-2010
Seven years into the Chretien-Martin track record on the confidence of the Canadian dollar from $ 0.62- $0.86 vs the U.S. Dollar reserve currency (Currency Liberal Oct 2000 - Jan 2006). The foreign currency traders understood it too. Why have banks, governments and currency traders begun to buy hold the Canadian dollar in larger amounts against the American dollar?   The American dollar is the reserve currency, the flight to safety in economic turmoil.
We don't need the media explaining why:
  • our costs of living, hydro rates, cost of food.
  • our employer is not going to give a "raise" this year.
  • looking into the potential for a future conflict of interest by chief of staff.
  • a mandatory forty page form on my personal habits is vital for Canada.
  • we don't accept gimmicks from politicians to "fix it" either.
Ignatieff, Layton challenging Dragons?
Wind energy isn't very efficient, according to William Palmer, an engineer who has presented internationally on the subject. He says that, because the winds come and go, wind turbines work at an average of 27% capacity. What's more, Ontario has no ability to store wind energy, so what we don't use immediately is wasted. Storage facilities could be created - at great cost - in addition to the huge cost of the turbines themselves.
In a perfect world, we shouldn't demur at the cost, but countries like Britain, well ahead of us in wind energy, are now having to face the stark reality of "fuel poverty" - the cost of fuel exceeding one's ability to pay. So, if wind energy is going to be expensive and inefficient, we'd like to know before we open our hydro bill.
Adding insult to injury, according to Palmer, is the fact the net effect of wind turbines on global warming is insignificant. Why? Because most of Canada's harmful emissions are not caused by electricity production, and because the fossil fuel systems needed to back up wind power lose their efficiency when they have to be started, stopped and restarted as winds come and go. Further, we are shocked to learn that, despite its tens of thousands of wind turbines, Germany, the poster child for wind energy, has yet to close a single coal-fired plant.
Sorry Jack your heating bill stunt won't "fix it" because of your record against every other tax cut to date. It won't excuse your vote for a 35% increase in employment insurance last week, calls to stop our Oil Sands and adopt the Kyoto protocol. Tax the rich, make the big polluters pay to redistribute the wealth for the poor is SOCIALISM. The Liberals may find stealing your policies acceptable from time to time to steal your voters, the majority of us don't share the Cuban-China-Russian political teachings.
We do know how to punish politicians, parties that fail to deliver on promises of good government or just blow smoke. The latest Angus Public Opinion Poll confirms the change from Ignatieff to Dion has NOT lifted the party fortunes or popularity among non Liberal voters. The messiah complex will not lift your party with Bob or Justin.
Polyphemus vs Nobody Odysseus
Can the nobodys devise a plan to secure their victory?
Support for the Conservatives is consistent with their pre-writ numbers: Without a significant drop in two way battles against the Democrats, Separatists, Green party in ridings the Liberals will remain in the opposition benches for the foreseeable future.
Thoughts?

Separtist Gilles Duceppe: No Passports EI For Canadians?

Open Parliament
When did the Separatists decide National policy?

Liberal leader Ignatieff, Democrat leader Layton are on the wrong side of this debate again.

They don't trust lawful gun owners.

Do they believe threats and fines, withdrawal of services and payments is going to fly with Canadians?

Can they be so out of touch?

Demanding we force Canadians to fill out a forty page form is necessary?

“Obviously you can't foresee every single case but a passport, yes. There's been a case this year in Quebec in which the principle of withholding a passport for a deadbeat dad has been upheld.”

This is not my Canada.
