Conservative Majority: Media Scrutiny Failure

In spite of the left leaning "experts" and messaging for the last five years Canadians overwhelmingly ended the coalition debate on May 2, 2011. Quebec has decided in it's collective wisdom to continue to align itself with political parties outside the mainstream.

Quebec first created  the Separtist party as a fall out from Meech Lake negotiation in the 1990's. After twenty one years,  a total of forty-two per cent voted for an additional four more years. Quebec has made another strategic error in betting against the Conservatives in 2011. A majority without Quebec has now become a reality.

Checkmate: Quebec sends NDP against CPC
Experts should no longer describe Quebec voters as sophisticated or ahead of the curve after they decided to shoot themselves in both feet. The Democratic Reform Bill in 2011 will now easily pass without Quebec. Every Lib-Bloc-NDP policy heavily supported in Quebec will no longer be viable.

Canadians decided against giving the left leaning parties any opportunity to derail the Conservative Government in Ottawa. The media for the most part has failed to provide scrutiny and balance in covering the politics during this campaign. Some of us feel they have failed us for much longer.

The backlash against the Liberal party and their leader was apparent after the ballots were counted. Many in left leaning world will not adjust to the reality of a Conservative majority. The fear mongering from the usual suspects in our media has failed to prevent the evolution to a two party state in Canada.  Voters have changed the political landscape, Canadian wanted an end to the games in Ottawa. We have four years of relative quiet now with a neutered opposition. Our beer buddy Jack with his place holders in Quebec are now in a much weaker position.

In Ontario Jack won 22 seats of the 106. He beat the Liberals 2 to 1 in seats  with only 16,257 extra votes. The NDP did not win 50% of the popular vote in Quebec but under our First past the post system rewarded, the NDP  won 58 seats. Quebec represents 25% of our population and the NDP party is now composed of 56% of its MPs from a single province (Quebec). Quebec centric issues  will now become the main plank of the NDP. The other regions that send MPs may find their issues being squeezed out from the new influx of Quebec MPs.

In the last general election 2008 in a speech in front of his supporters following the election, BQ leader Gilles Duceppe claimed to have achieved his objectives, adding: "without the Bloc Québécois tonight, Mr. Harper would have formed a majority government".[6]

Jack and his team opposed adding seats to Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta without support of Quebec in the 40th parliament. This time Jack and his placeholders can't stop the additional thirty seats. Thanks Jack.

Just For Laughs Montreal expands to Ottawa?
Jack Layton, leader of the official opposition will have to explain to his supporters how legislation he previously blocked in a minority will now be easily passed without delay. He can spend the next four years recycling his complaints and bragging again how his team voted against the  Conservative government. This time Jack can't blame the Liberals for propping up our PM. Jack and his NDP-Quebec place holders will come under much more scrutiny as the official opposition to the government. Jack will have to provide alternatives for scrutiny. Perhaps the media can provide some scrutiny this time. On election night Jack read the wrong speech. He read a victory speech that he can not hope to deliver on. How will the NDP balance the needs of his large Quebec caucus vs the rest of Canada? Jack fails to understand this is not a minority parliament and his coalition majority of the Lib-Bloc parties has been decimated. Jack has been given the mantle to provide an alternative to our PM. Good luck Jack because outside Quebec your story did not resonate.

We the voters-taxpayers gave the Conservatives their third mandate and when WE are prepared, we will take it away. It is not up to the Lib, NDP or Bloc party to fire our PM. Ignatieff and Gilles forgot Parliament is our house and not theirs. Both of them failed to listen to us that we wanted to wait until 2012 before another election. Each MP serves at our pleasure.

  •  Long Gun Registry will be scrapped
  • Political Party subsidy will end
  • Tanker traffic on West coast will continue
  • Pipelines to West Coast, US will move forward pending environmental hurdles.
  • Requirement Bilingual Supreme Court Judges D.O.A.
  • Tougher Illegal immigration laws will pass
  • Large omnibus bill on justics will pass
  • Trade deals can no longer will be delayed
Liberal Dream Team McGuinty-Ignatieff
The vocal left will continue to refuse the democratic result on May 2, 2011. The fringe left can't comprehend the taxpayers are fed up paying for new entitlement policies. Many of us are taxed out at every level and we don't believe in the Robin Hood approach. Demonizing select large corporations and using Alberta as a punching bag to continue  transfer the wealth programs has led to the firing of 2/3 of the coalition leaders. What is the likelihod of the Liberals and Bloc surviving for another election cycle without their political party subsidy? In Toronto the left imploded and we sent Rob Ford with a large contingent to cut spending. The experts in the media failed again to understand the mood of the voters. The strategists also failed to understand how the polls were not accurate. Rob Ford ended the debate in eight mintues. Anyone believe Dalton will survive? How much was your last Hydro bill?

Our traditional media has refused to accept the facts the Liberal decline began well before Dion-Ignatieff's leadership. In almost every instance the Conservative party has been successful in reaching out and growing in every region. In 2011 the Bloc were handed their worst defeat and removal of official party status. The media will keep looking for excuses why they missed the back lash against the Liberals. They will not recognize how Quebec voters miscalculated by removing three cabinet  ministers and two others. It will be an interesting time over the next four years to watch how the economic action plan will assist our competitiveness in Canada. Our PM and his team is here for Canada.

Conservative Majority: End of Liberals?

I give credit where credit is due. The Conservatives have demonstrated the benefit of playing the 'long' game in convincing successful Canadians to enter the nasty world of politics. The culture of winning is not an accident, winners make their destiny. The Conservative Party of Canada is the party of Canada.
Making a case beyond winning: A case for a majority is needed.
  • Law and Order vs Rehabilitation Industry
  • Political Welfare Ends: Conservative will end political party subsidies
  • Invite genuine refugees vs Immigration Industry protection of  Economic migrants with $ 50k
  • Protecting our environment vs Energy lobbyists wealth redistribution programs
  • Economic Management: less waste and better management of programs.
I still find it amusing Liberal bloggers think losing by less than one thousand votes is good news. A riding held for twenty two years: the liberal base in Vaughan did not abandon the former Liberal MP Mayor Elect Maurizio Bevilacqua. He handily dispatched the incumbent mayor Linda Jackson. J.W.'s base failed to show up in Winnipeg North for her run against the Mayor. She lost and the long held NDP seat changed hands to the Liberals who ran a well known experienced candidate campaign against two rookies.

23 more to go and I will have won!
Monte Solberg agrees here. After all, they didn’t lose by much, so if you really squint your eyes and drink a case of beer I suppose it’s possible that a loss could look like a victory.
One veteran Liberal told The Hill Times even though Liberal MPs played up the fact Mr. Fantino won with such a narrow margin, the fact that the Vaughan Italian-Canadian community swung heavily toward Mr. Fantino is another signal new and old immigrant communities in the City of Toronto proper are ready to change their voting patterns. The Liberal noted even the large Polish community is shifting toward Mr. Harper, in part out of discontent with past Liberal measures such as the legalization of same-sex marriage, and in part because of the Conservative focus on crime.
While the Conservatives clearly had the better night, it's noteworthy that both parties lost comparable numbers of raw votes last night, although in much different ridings.-Pundits' Guide  What other long held Liberal riding is on the short-list? 'Vaughan showed us no seat is safe,' say Liberals.
Lac-Saint-Louis (electoral district)Lac-Saint-Louise Quebec's next CPC seat?
Now in his 12th season as the leader of the Alouettes, Smith is one of the most recognized sports figures in Quebec. Montreal fans first got to know him as a star running back for the Als from 1972 through 1980, and then as the team’s President and CEO from 1997 to 2001 and from 2004 through today. His first term as the president of Alouettes followed five years as commissioner of the Canadian Football League. He has worked tirelessly for professional and amateur football over the last 30 years, playing a key role in reviving the tradition and glory of football in Montreal and Quebec as a whole. -Montreal Alouettes

Harper was accompanied by Quebec cabinet minister Denis Lebel and three of the province's Conservative Senators, Leo Housakos, Jacques Demers and Judith Seidman. The emcee for the event was Alouettes football club president Larry Smith, who praised the Olympic "Own the Podium" program and Harper as "the leader who can lead us to the future."  West Island Gazette

The Tories are courting him to run in the Montreal riding of Lac-Saint-Louis in the next election.

Pundits Guide link here
The last Liberal majority compliments of Ontario had a similar pattern in Vaughan. Lac-Saint-Louis has seen a significant drop in Liberal voters showing to at the polls ever since. In 2000 the percent margin was 66%. It is now 22%, will a star candidate be enough to defeat the incumbent at the next General Election?
Can you imagine if Larry Smith joins the CPC? If he is able to convince retired, current members of the Alouettes  endorse his campaign? The thought of two time Grey Cup Champions going door to door for Larry might be enough to get many Liberals reaching for something stronger than a couple Tylenol eh Warren?

Cheers.

Update Plan B is working out according to Nik Nanos - The current configuration of national support for the Conservatives suggests that numerically a Tory majority government can be formed without a significant breakthrough in the province of Quebec.

Rossi Team: Every Hopeful

Rocco Rossi
On the same day that a new Ipsos-Reid poll found he has the support of just 7 per cent of decided voters, Rocco Rossi overhauled his campaign team. Sachin Aggarwal, former deputy chief of staff to Michael Ignatieff, is out as campaign manager. Bernie Morton, who had been poised to run John Tory's campaign, is in.

Last place. That's got to sting one week makes a difference?

Bernie Morton, Rossi's new campaign manager, told the Sun Friday that the election's momentum was shifting to the City Hall outsider.
The Toronto media, the attacks by all the candidates on Rob Ford paint him as the outsider.
Rocco Rossi took the job of fundraiser for the Federal Liberal Party and quit within twelve months? The public relations arm in the Liberal party boasted of reaching twenty million, it did not materialize. In the first two quarters of 2010, the Liberals fell further behind the Conservative Party of Canada, they exceeded their best numbers since 2006. What exactly did Rocco Rossi know about the Liberal fortunes and what did he fix?
Bernie spent seven years working for a City of Toronto councillor after attending the University of Guelph as a political science major.
Ontario general election, 2007
Bernie has held a variety of political campaign positions over two decades. In the 2006 and 2008 federal elections he played a central campaign role for the Conservative Party of Canada. In Ontario’s 2007 election, Bernie sat on the Ontario P.C. campaign committee. He also serves as Vice President of the Public Affairs Association of Canada.
Bernie is an insider and had backed John Tory.
Sixty percent of the population is not happy with the choices (of Rob Ford or George Smitherman)," Morton said. "Now people are recognizing that Rocco Rossi is an option – he has the greatest opportunity for growth."
When you are in last place, it is safe to predict you can improve.
Sixty percent of the population do NOT participate. You must be eligible to vote in Canadian elections. In most cases municipal politics brings out the lowest participation in the electorate.

In 2008 a large portion of the eligible electorate decided not to vote in the Federal elections. They accounted for nearly nine million Canadians who did not bother to participate in choosing a candidate or spoiling a ballot. There are 1.5 million electors in Toronto's municipal election.Voter turnout in the 2006 election was 39%.
In 2003 it was a horse race between David Miller and John Tory. Barbara Hall and John Nunziata were only capable of winning one ward each.
The Liberal voters moved from Barbara Hall, John Nunziata to John Tory in order to stop David Miller come from behind rally. David Miller was supported by the NDP and union vote.
Liberals don't have alot of time to move their votes for the next mayor to stop the NDP and union vote this time either. Liberal candidate George Smitherman is wearing his Ontario provincial record.
In 2003 the voters had not suffered under seven years of provincial Liberals. In 2010 the voters are looking to punish everything Liberal. Is Rocco Rossi too closely associated to the Federal Liberals?
Rob Ford is most likely to pick up the anti-establishment vote against more taxes, fees in Toronto. His honesty about the need to balance the books and deal with the deficit of Toronto is making the Liberals and Unions very worried.
Will the taxpayers show up to give Rob Ford a landslide as the incumbent who is the outsider?

Everyone Loves Harper

Annual Stampede Breakfast PM Harper
I know what you are thinking but bear with me.  The West began a split from the Progressive Conservative Party of Brian Mulroney and Joe Clark in the late-eighties, early 90's. The West had already rejected the Liberals for the most part in the 70's, Robert Stanfield PC and the CCF were embraced.
The Liberals through unilateral changes in campaign reform are responsible for giving over $ 60 million dollars of taxpayers money to the right of centre party led by Stephen Harper since 2004.
Prime Minister Martin and President Bush Offic...
Liberals, Democrats and Separatists MP's Love Stephen Harper and their voting record in parliament proves it. Canadian voters have only awarded a minority since 2004 but PM Stephen Harper has never had a non-confidence unlike Paul Martin who did within two years of his mandate. Voters rejected him in 2006.
Background in the Liberal mindset on campaign reform.
Campaign Reform by Liberals in 2000
The new Canada Elections Act introduced by Bill C-2, which came into force on September 1, 2000, does not alter the voting process itself, but modifies the federal electoral system to make it more accessible, fair and transparent.
It greatly empowers the Top Civil Servant at the head of Elections Canada as previously it could only be enforced through the criminal courts.
In 2003, the Chrétien government passed An Act to Amend the Canada Elections Act and the Income Tax Act. This Act amended the Canada Elections Act to include stronger financial disclosure and registration requirements for political entities, introduced new limits on political contributions, and tighter restrictions on contributions from labour unions and corporations to political parties and leadership contestants. The Act further implemented new public financing provisions, allowing political parties to access public funding to support their activities. The Act also amended the Income Tax Act, increasing the maximum tax credit for a political contribution.-MapleLeafweb

The Liberal Party must miss a trans-formative leader such as Stephen Harper:
Stephen Harper was born in Toronto and attended Leaside Richview Collegiate Institute. When he was very young he was a Liberal and than later a PC.
"What drove him into politics was indignation, outrage," argues commentator William Johnson, who has written a biography called Stephen Harper and the Future of Canada. It was ideology, not love of the game, that Mr. Johnson believes pushed Mr. Harper into public life.
"One thing that I would say about him, with great conviction, is that he's a straight arrow," Mr. Johnson believes. "What you see is what you get. He's not good at acting or pretending. He doesn't weep with widows and hug every orphan in sight, and he won't wear a hundred hearts on his sleeve. By character and by principle he opposes all the photo ops and false sentiments" that are part of political theatre.- Who is Stephen Harper?
Stephen Harper grew unhappy with political culture of several parties and with the help of many reshaped the political landscape in Canada.
Peter MacKay
In March 2002 Stephen Harper beat Stockwell Day to lead the Canadian Alliance. Within 18 months he merged the PC with Canadian Alliance to form the Conservative Party of Canada by beating Belinda Stronach and Tony Clement on March 20, 2004.
On May 23, 2004, Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, on the advice of Martin, ordered the dissolution of the House of Commons. Following a 36-day campaign, voters elected 308 Members of the House of Commons.
History in the making a slow romance with Ontario playing hard to get.
Canada Day PM Stephen Harper
The 2006 Canadian federal election (more formally, the 39th General Election) was held on January 23, 2006, to elect members of the Canadian House of Commons of the 39th Parliament of Canada. The Conservative Party of Canada won the greatest number of seats: 40.3% of seats, or 124 out of 308, up from 99 seats in 2004, and 36.3% of votes: up from 29.6% in the 2004 election. The election resulted in a minority government led by the Conservative Party with Stephen Harper becoming the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada. By proportion of seats, this was Canada's smallest minority government since Confederation. Despite this it was the longest serving minority government led by a party other than the Liberal Party of Canada, and the third longest serving minority government overall.
In 2008 Canadian federal election (40th General Election) was held on on Tuesday October 14, 2008. The Conservative Government were able to pick up an additional 19 seats, Liberals gave up 26 seats, Separatist  lost 2,  and the NDP picked up 8 additional seats. The Green Party gain no seats but make tremendous gains with raw votes.
In November of 2008 the conservatives tried in their economic update to stop the flow of taxpayers money in excess of $ 10 million per year to their own political party war-chest but the coalition led by Dion, endorsed by all opposition political party leaders demanded the political subsidy remain and it was undemocratic to remove it. They were threatening an election over it.
The Conservative Party of Canada has been able to raise $ 147,594,561 without the Liberal Campaign Reform changes. If you include the subsidy they have earned through various revenue streams nearly $ 250 million since 2004.
  • In 2006 the Bloc and NDP took turns passing the Conservative Party of Canada's Agenda.
  • In January 2009 the Liberals abandoned their coalition in order support Stephen Harper.
  • In September 2009 Jack Layton did the same.
  • In 2010 we have at least thirty Liberal MPs who are unable to show up, whipped not, to vote against Stephen Harper Conservative Party of Canada Agenda.
  • This summer Ignatieff spent his summer dancing, talking about his unrequited love for the Conservative Agenda and visiting friends asking for money. The Liberal Express summer bus tour has been a flop, according to a new Leger Marketing poll.
