NDP- Press Release

“KAIROS does tremendous work and this cut is mean-spirited and unnecessary,” said New Democrat International Cooperation Critic John Rafferty (Thunder Bay – Rainy River). “At the drop of a hat, the Conservative government has cut this reputable church-based social justice movement without any justification.”

Adopt a Liberal: If you live in a NDP/BLOC Riding after writing to your representative, why not consider adopting a Liberal or two to target with a letter of concern. Don’t let the Liberals remain on the fence! Tell them it’s time to take a stand and say NO to the Canada-Colombia FTA ! Some Liberals to consider contacting: Scott Brison, Bob Rae, Marlene Jennings, Mario Silva, Justin Trudeau, John Cannis, and Michael Ignatieff.

Let's try to be fair on one point. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney didn't explicitly accuse KAIROS – the Toronto-based ecumenical activist group – of being anti-Semitic in remarks last week at the Jerusalem-hosted Global Forum for combatting anti-Semitism.
What he said was: "We have defunded organizations, most recently, like KAIROS, who are taking a leadership role in the boycott, divestment and sanctions against (Israel)." -DiManno

Kairos too left-leaning?

Kairos'  focus on Israel and Colombia would seem to indicate a left-wing political bias and less of a human rights or even a defence-of-Christians bias.  But then who knew that Palestine was a country?"

Lib bloggers who are they leaning on for support for Kairos?

UPDATE Is this the Person Liberal Bloggers are going to use to champion Kairos?

Ms. Ralph, a professor of social work now on leave from Carleton University, contributed a chapter to The Hidden History of 9-11, in which she argues that the Sept. 11 attacks were an American and Israeli conspiracy to “seize control of Eurasia, and thereby the entire world.”-

The United Church of Canada said it should have exercised “greater scrutiny” before approving funding for the event that founded a controversial alternative Jewish group, according to an email sent to its congregations over the weekend.

I have not found a single Liberal blogger who shares the view that Kairos may have been biased or their narrow focus resembles the Agenda of the Coalition. Will keep looking.

The campaign against the TIFF's spotlight on Tel Aviv also has been a total failure: Despite all the protestor's various self-congratulatory events and manifestos, not a single notable film has been lost from the festival. Jane Fonda, in fact, even withdrew her support from the "Toronto Declaration" being circulated against TIFF after she actually read it — a notable embarrassment.
Meanwhile, supporters of Israel have been galvanized: Over the weekend, Toronto media magnate Moses Znaimer announced he would be setting up a special session of his vaunted ideaCity conference in Tel Aviv in 2010.
As countless left-wing activists are discovering, bigotry and hate tend to redound on those who spread them. It's something the UCC might want to keep in mind the next time Israel-haters come by looking for a handout.
