Madam Justice Suzanne Coupal of the Quebec Court said she felt the need to send a clear message against wrongdoing in Canada's political class, in light of the sponsorship scandal and allegations of fraud in the Quebec municipal sector.-12/05/09

Mr. Corbeil acknowledged earlier this year that he approved six fake invoices worth $117,000 as director-general of the Quebec wing of the Liberal Party of Canada in 1999 and 2000. He also acknowledged getting a $50,000 kickback in 1997.
He said at his sentencing hearing that he did not benefit financially from the crimes.
Just in time for Christmas!The Crown prosecutor argued that the sentence was fair and reasonable, and objected to Mr. Corbeil's release.-12/18/09
