Liberal Party of Canada: Mythbusters

Ekos Polling has often referred to key voting block for the Liberal Party.
Where is the female, education university or higher voter? Poll here.
The campaign on personal attacks behind parliamentary privilege on female conservatives has been a major activity in Question Period.

Is this the strategy to win power?
If I am not mistaken only Ontario female, Ontario University Education, University Atlantic is outside the margin of error and in favour of the Liberals.

In Quebec the Bloc lead the historical voting groups of the 1990's Liberals outside the margin of error. Where are those key voting groups for the Liberals that were responsible for giving the Chretien-Martin Liberals 100 seats in Ontario in 2000. Thirty-six seats in Quebec. Where did that party lose those key groups in Ontario and Quebec. The West is not to blame for the Liberals suffering the worst results in over 150 years in 2008.

Ekos Poll April 2010 Liberal Party of Canada Maintains Dion Support Level

Ekos Polling conducted another Poll between April 14th - 20th, sample size 2,084, M.O.E =2.15.
Are we going to hear excuses from each political party why little movement is taking place on a weekly basis? The bar graph have includes six Polls from June 2009 to present,  demostrating the futility of measuring the movement of partisan vote or leaning (excuses) . Here is the Post last week. Ekos Poll: Direction of Government Right or Wrong
Here is my list of  excuses: Nothing is sticking, the suggestions our military  are "War Criminals" using rendition, NDS, smearing the Canadian Government, Civil Service is participating some secretive undemocratic government by redacting documents to hide details of "torture".
The opposition does not understand fighting for the Omar Khadrs', alleged murderers guilty of "gun residue" trying to kill our soldiers, relief workers, government official is not a vote winner.
The circus act in targeting an ex-junior minister, her spouse in the latest witchunt, was never going to work outside the Ottawa bubble. The actors in this poorly acted soap opera are hiding behind parliamentary privilege.
The Press Gallery, Political Pundits who have been participating in this yellow journalism for months have failed. They are quoting the same allegations, smears that are behind parliamentary privilege.
Canadians will NOT switch their party loyalties on Parliamentary privileged-MSM spin, we have always tuned out Politics for the most part.
Apologists for the other side will give you excuses why the government is in trouble and running scared.
Angus Poll was the most accurate in the General Election October 14, 2008.
Note: * My graph may contain an error regarding BQ 20% vs 7%. Update if necessary.
Update: Norman Spector, Bloggers have questioned relationship of Pollster hired by CBC.
Still, even a poll skeptic such as myself was surprised to read in The Globe and Mail this morning that Ekos’s Frank Graves is simultaneously polling for the taxpayer-supported CBC and providing partisan political advice to the Liberals: “Frank Graves of Ekos Research … has told the Grits that the wedge politics of the Conservatives provide them with an opportunity to stake out a stark alternative. Stop worrying about the West, he’s told them. No need to fear polarizing the debate. It’s what worked for Mr. Chrétien against Preston Manning and Stockwell Day. -Norman Spector

Ekos Polling Trends: Crime & Punishment. April 2010

Ekos Polling here. The trajectory is also interesting. Relatively speaking, there has been a slight but significant drift to the more socially conservative position of punishment, which is up 8 points from the beginning of the decade. Rehabilitation also increased slightly over this period. These findings are consistent with other research that suggests that in terms of attitudes to crime and justice, Canadians may indeed be more socially conservative today than in the past. - April 19, 2010

Liberals rank punishment the lowest in comparison to all political parties. The significance is the Liberals have been responsible for the most appointments and deployment of resources in our judicial system.

August 2007- Canadians would agree that increases in firearm robberies, non-sexual assaults, drug offences, violent youth crime and regional homicide rates are cause for concern. These are precisely the types of crimes this Government has addressed through its comprehensive tackling crime agenda. In fact the Liberal Premier of Ontario, the Mayor of Toronto and the Canadian law enforcement community have all agreed that action must be taken to tackle those crimes.
While Canada’s New Government is encouraged to see that the overall crime rate decreased by 2.6% in 2006, more progress needs to be made. Rob Nicholson

Ontarians, Liberal supporters, and the university educated were the most likely to support pension benefits for prisoners. Yet even here, there was still tremendous support for benefits being denied in some or all circumstances. (You can't make this stuff up) Ekos Polling conducted a Poll March 31- April 6 with 909 people.

Ekos Poll: Direction of Government Right or Wrong

I included five National Polls from Ekos from June 1, 2009 to the latest April 14, 2010. Here are the links for Ekos June 1, 2009, March 02, 2010, March 25, 2010, April 01, 2010, April 14, 2010

Largest sample of Ekos polling (10,896) on June 2009 after the bad news deficit of $50 Billion showing Liberals ahead in National support. At this time the attack ads have not been deployed, the 'blank slate' was only four percent behind the Best PM rankings.

I don't see a marked movement of voters in opinion of Right Direction of government from the Liberals, NDP, Green. A small gradual shift  is approximately 6% CPC,  4% Bloc (voters & leaning) have increased their opinion the Right Direction since June 2009.

One can drill down and examine if this is based on a regional, industry impact of where the largest number of jobs were lost. To date I have not found a significant pattern. (Province, Farmers, Forestry, etc)

Direction of Government :The Government needs to improve and deploy resources on providing timely information. The Interim Information Commissioner of Canada, Suzanne Legault, today renewed the call for federal institutions to take immediate steps to curb the pervasive problem of delays in responding to requests for information under the Access to Information Act.

Global Shift to right of centre or Western Democracies only?
In free elections many left or socialist government democracies have lost of power over the last decade. Many of these countries still suffer from largely inefficient central planning authority model. In the 1990's with the fall of the Soviet Empire many of these countries have begun to shift to decentralized free market models as a means of exiting the problems of socialism. European countries embarked on a Union to improve trade and movement of goods.

In the U.S...
A fragile housing market and high unemployment remain top concerns for Bernanke and other Fed policy-makers even as some sectors like manufacturing have strengthened.

In Question Period we are not getting the big issues raised
  • Economy
  • Interprovincial Barriers
  • Global Recession
  • Free Trade Deals
  • Mission: Exit Strategy
  • Maternal Health
Is Canada better prepared if countries in the European Union that have much larger debt problems cause another global meltdown in the financial markets?

University Educated & Liberals: Most likely to support Prisoner Pension benefits

Ontarions, Liberal supporters, and the university educated were the most likely to support pension benefits for prisoners. Yet even here, there was still tremendous support for benefits being denied in some or all circumstances. (You can't make this stuff up)
Ekos Polling conducted a Poll March 31- April 6 with 909 people. It is here.

Additional nugget from Ekos Poll:
The Poll also confirmed the strongest opposition against the military participaction in Afghanistan is in Quebec 62.1% broken down with 62.4 French vs 45.1 English.

The rest of Canada opposition against the military participaction in Afghanistan is at 12.9% lower with Ontario (2nd highest) in comparison.

Were the university professors in Regina contacted for their opinion?

Ignatieff said Quebecers have grown weary of the Bloc’s ‘protest politics,’ and want to build. He said, as a leader, he needs Quebecers to “come down from the grandstands and play on the ice.”-Michael Ignatieff (Regarding Mirabel Airport)
Twenty years ago, governments were prepared to recognize that Quebec constituted a “distinct society” within Canada, notwithstanding that most English-speaking Canadians viewed it as one of 10 equal provinces. But with each new wave of immigration, the conception of Canada as a partnership of English- and French-speaking Canadians has diminished. In B.C., where I live, the view that Cantonese, Punjabi and Mandarin should be equal to French continues to grow. -Norman Spector

Ekos Poll: Liberal Party Imploder Continues

Ekos Poll has conducted a Poll between March 17-23, 2010. Another bad out come for the Liberal Party of Canada.

The economic recovery continues without much help from the opposition parties.

Note: A single Poll or series of good results means little if your organization is unprepared to capitalize and deliver results through a GOTV ballot endgame.

Key Findings

  • Nearly a 6% gap between the Conservative and 2nd place Liberals.
  • Support for the Liberals has double dipped again, they are within 2% from the lowest popular support in over 150 years. (10/14/08)

The lead in Ontario for the Liberals has vanished. Ontario is a key battleground.

Conservatives lead EVERY demographic except two: University Educated, Francophone. That means the Female +5.5%, Male, <25 through 65+, Less than HS through to College and English. (Ouch!)

Q. All things considered, would you say the Government is moving in the right or wrong direction?

Right Direction
  • 46.9% National
  • 86.5% CPC
  • 32.8% LIB
  • 28.5% NDP
  • 26.4% GRN
  • 19.4% BQ
  • 24% Other

The CPC base has improved in support for right direction. The base is the least unhappy about the direction being taken.

All things considered, would you say the Government is moving in the right or wrong direction? Quebec is the only province or region that does not say Government is moving in the right direction.

Who exactly is out of tune again?

Liberal Party of Canada: Political Games

In honour of the failed stunt in Question Period to divide Canadians and push abortion, here's a reminder of why the Polls show popular support for the Liberals is only a few points above the worst showing in 150 years..

The Pile on:
"We look like fools," one Liberal MP said privately. Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett, a doctor who argued vigourously in favour of the motion, had, earlier in the week labelled the vote a "day of reckoning" on the issue. It was indeed a day of reckoning -- for her own party. -David Akin
It was a gong show last night in the Commons for Michael Ignatieff and his Liberals; one Liberal MP is even calling it “clown city.”
First, the Liberal motion on the Harper government’s maternal health initiative, aimed at stirring up the Tory bench over reproductive issues, such as abortion, failed. The Grits lost the vote after three of their own MPs opposed it; others abstained and some Liberal MPs, who are pro-life, were told to stay away from the Commons, according to sources.- Jane Taber
"The motion did not specifically talk about abortion, but there was sufficient inference," said Albina Guarnieri, who opposes abortion and skipped the vote. "That's why some people stayed away, myself included."
MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj, who is also opposed to abortion and missed the vote, said he, too, was uncomfortable with the motion's wording. He said he had permission to stay away from the vote and continued with committee work. CBC
If this sort of sloppy behaviour continues, they'll be dreaming up a 2017 vision for an even smaller Liberal opposition that will be staring across the aisle at a Conservative government dynasty. Don Martin
I really don't get the apparent determination of the Liberals to identify themselves as the party of Big Abortion. They've been on this kick for weeks now, culminating in Tuesday's revolt by Liberal MPs against the party leadership. When Michael Ignatieff first suggested the Tories were slagging off women by not energetically encouraging abortion in developing countries, I figured it was just another misstep by a surprisingly accident-prone leader. I thought he'd quickly be apprised of his mistake, and shut up about it. But no. He kept it up, apparently convinced there are votes to be had by raising the one issue guaranteed to make a large segment of the population decidedly uncomfortable. Kelly McParland

 March for Life
OTTAWA - Campaign Life Coalition is hoping this year’s National March for Life will draw 20,000 people to Parliament Hill on May 13 with help from Ottawa area Catholic schools.
Last year’s march drew more than 12,000 people, the largest crowd in the event’s 12 years. About half of the marchers were young people. But many of these were bused in from other cities around Ontario.  -Catholic Register
Talk to Liberals – office holders, party organizers, fundraisers – around the country and you will tap into a malaise that a good pollster could rout out with a single question: “What's happening?” “Nothin',” the vast majority would respond, with a margin of error of plus or minus very little.
“There is no Liberal Party,” says one lifelong card carrier who has sat at cabinet tables.
“It died a long time ago. It's not completely extinct yet, but there's no there there.” In this lifelong Liberal's eyes, the party has been stalled for years. No new energy, no new ideas, no vision of what it might like to do. The singular advantage of proroguing, this Liberal would say, is that it has put an end to the squirming every time the opposition pounces.
“The ‘gotcha' stuff is out of control,” says the Liberal. “They bring in all these nerdy keener kids from campus and it's some kind of game to them. They're turning politics into pro wrestling.” The media concentrates on the top, Ignatieff, and on the Hill, but disenchanted Liberals say there is a story to be told far from the now-silenced sound bites of the Centre Block.- Globe & Mail

Coalition Party: Smoke & Mirrors: Can't Win Through An Election

Photo Credit St.Vas-Empty Suit Reuters Ognen Teofilovski
The opposition parties are passing motions that are NOT binding or can be used by the Government to declare a loss of confidence. Why? Will the opposition parties use their numerical majority to engineer another "crisis" over the continued use of the 10% by introducing Question of Privilege and Contempt of Parliament?
Why won't the opposition members of parliament remove their continued support of the government through a vote of non-confidence? We hear from the opposition benches the members of parliament we don't trust the government. Really?
The opposition members of parliament are not interested in seeking support in the peoples' house from the people, through an election and continue to vote for the government in power they don't trust.
Will NDP flip-flop on their vote in Parliament behind close doors?.
"There were some (measures in the motion) where we would have done it slightly differently and so we'll have to take those issues up at the Board of Internal Economy," Layton said when pressed on the ban.
His party House leader, Libby Davies, indicated the ten-percenter vote may be the jumping-off point for a negotiation over bulk mail.
What the  ^#$%^%^$^&%^&%^&
 Why?
The administrative matters of the House of Commons have been the responsibility of BOIE since 1868.
Will the opposition create another publicity stunt around the use of flyers by the government and rise on a question of privilege or contempt?

Mandate and Authority

The Board:
When Parliament is prorogued or dissolved, members of the Board retain their functions until they are replaced.
Smoke and mirrors is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. The source of the name is based on magicians' illusions, where magicians make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a confusing burst of smoke. The expression may have a connotation of virtuosity or cleverness in carrying out such a deception.
More generally, "smoke and mirrors" may refer to any sort of presentation by which the audience is intended to be deceived, such as an attempt to fool a prospective client into thinking that one has capabilities necessary to deliver a product in question. - Wikipedia

    Bernard Généreux 1 - Bloc 0

In spite of all opposition parties opposing the budget vote on March 4, 2010, the Government of Canada is delivering. An Ekos Poll found only 19% of Quebecers share a negative view of the impact of the budget, tough times for the Bloc.
Bernard Généreux was elected in November 2009 at the expense of the Bloc!
Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada has committed $400 million over two years to help First Nation communities build needed new housing, repair and remediate existing non-profit housing for their members, and complement housing programs offered by CMHC. This investment will also provide an economic stimulus for many First Nations and surrounding areas by creating jobs.
Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, some $45 million in federal investments will be made available to First Nations in Quebec to address immediate housing needs. -Marketwire

Igatieff, Layton, Duceppe: Out of Touch With Budget Impact

Opposition leaders were busy in participating in publicity events as with special interest groups PSAC in attendance. The Liberal Party had 29 MP's not show up to vote against the budget. A facebook group has started to remind those 29 Liberal MP's to get back to work and vote.

Out of touch with voters on Budget Impact

Ekos Poll confirms the Opposition Parties and leaders remain out of touch with most what most Canadians think about the impact of the overall budget introduce March 4, 2010.

On a National level no change or better 73% . Only 24% believe the impact will be worse off.

Only 19% share the worse off view of overall budget impact in Quebec.

Jack Layton and Michael Ignatieff are out of touch with 73% of Ontario voters regarding the overall impact of the budget who think they will be no change or better off.

Jack Layton, meanwhile is the only national leader with a positive rating, and one that is improving. However, his party, despite being a strong second-choice for many voters on the centre-left, hasn’t budged from its third-place spot, far behind the front-runners.

Update: Is this what Michael Ignatieff considers protecting Canadian Culture regarding foreign investment, American TV Gameshows?

This is not a timely suggestion regarding a deficit or budget. Wasted use of taxpayers dollars.

    March 2009
There is no moral or philosophical justification for using one billion of taxpayers' dollars to subsidize the viewing and listening tastes of a shrinking percentage of the population and the ideological hobby horses of CBC executives and editors.
Would you favour hundreds of millions of your hard-earned dollars going to subsidize Crossroads Television System (CTS), the Christian service with stations in Ontario and Alberta? Or how about al-Jazeera, the English-language Arab station that now has a place in Canada's channel line-up? Neither is anymore overtly biased than the CBC is to the advancement and defence of its causes. So where is the justification in denying those stations subsidies while lavishing nearly one-third of Ottawa's cultural budget on a service that captures less than 8% of Canadian television viewers and just about the same number of radio listeners?- Lorne Gunter

    Michael Ignatieff: Roadkill

When a crack team of Liberal insiders travelled to the U.S. to replace Paul Martin did they ever imagine their pick would end up as roadkill?

If you look at the leadership polling numbers for the national political leaders, the Liberals have a serious problem. Divisions have continued to plague his leadership. He has has been at the helm for over one year.

    • NFLD MP's budget break in support of Danny Williams over liberal leader
    • Janine Krieber on fractures within party and failure to stop CPC with the coalition
    • Denis Coderre alleges Michael is unable to deliver results for Quebec
    • Nancy Charest on her leader failing to deliver results for Quebec
    • Paul Szabo on his leader pro- abortion statement
    • Bob's Rae's supporters leaking embarrasing details to MSM
One can almost hear Ignatieff’s silent tears when he realizes that Layton, if he were leader of the Liberal Party, would actually stand a better chance of returning the former Natural Governing Party to the government side of the House of Commons.- Werner Patels
Trudeau didn't play the populist. He didn't hide his education or erudition. When a reporter asked if he had struggled with his conscience before invoking the War Measures Act, he launched into a disquisition about democracy and the rule of law, including a reference to the clash between Creon and Antigone in Sophocles' play. He did not mention Tim Hortons. Even once.- Dave Gardner
The Ottawa Citizen’s Dan Gardner runs Michael Ignatieff over with a pickup truck, then throws it in reverse — the hook being Mr. Ignatieff’s recent, embarrassingly brain-dead op-ed in the New York Times, and the subject being Mr. Ignatieff’s painful and thoroughly unconvincing transformation from public intellectual into man of the people. Gardner recalls the famous photograph of Pierre Trudeau sashaying confidently into the Grey Cup final looking like Oscar Wilde on a particularly fancy-free afternoon, and then imagines Mr. Ignatieff at next year’s game. “He has a giant foam finger on one hand, a can of Blue in the other. He rises and declares, ‘Who among us does not like the CFL?’ He is pelted with hotdogs.” Great stuff.

Liberal Dreams Crushed By Latest Ekos Poll

How many Liberal bloggers woke up this morning and have been crying on their keyboard with the latest EKOS poll?

Confirmed eligible Liberal voters are the LEAST interested of all opposition parties in returning to the Polls as soon as possible to replace the current government. No March election for you!

Across the board nearly 30% on average of confirmed eligible voters for the opposition parties want them to wait until the Full Term is served!

Another EPIC Fail: Partisan FB protestors, Insite duct tape wielding protestors, and our own liberal biased media in pushing your fake stories and biases to force a March election and support for your left wing hidden agenda.

68.9% of Canadians give The Government and PM a passing grade

This is another example of a teaching moment from the Conservative Party of Canada to impart on the opposition and the liberal media bias exposed (here, here).  A majority of Canadians do not support wasting money on regulations that will not benefit Canada. The behaviour and handling the detainee issue by the opposition and the media has not been balanced. Those same fat, greasy politicians and lawyers who couldn't protect themselves from a charging chipmunk, go on the offensive. They fashion public opinion to assure that, in the hindsight of 20/20 vision, they strip away the reality of the extreme difficulty that soldiers and police find themselves in, and Monday morning quarterbacks that they are, they convince the public and those conducting the inquires that the solutions are simple. -Rob Harvie
The Politics in Canadian Political Landscape has changed and many still can't comprehend the results.

Sadly the opposition with the help of our liberal media instead have spent their energy from the cheap seats chasing the "tails" trying to suggest our government, military, government officials are involved in a conspiracy to "cover up" torture or it is widspread. Since 2006 winning a minority government and in 2008 winning a larger mandate the government has spent millions in cleaning up the mess left behind by the last government on so many files. The Bloc, NDP and majority of Liberals did NOT support the extension of the mission. If they allege some massive conspiracy of abuse they can withdraw their support for this government at their first opportunity.  They can also with their superior numbers pass legislation as per the parliamentary democracy with the help of the un-elected Liberal dominated Senate who recently gutted a crime bill.

About 98 per cent of Canadian water treatment plants had perfect compliance with federal guidelines for drinking water in 2007.-Canwest News Service

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. announced Thursday it will add a second shift at its Woodstock, Ont., facility to build its popular RAV4, which will create an additional 800 jobs at the site.

All the Polls have reflected that Canadians have not accepted the version of the Liberal media or the opposition to blame the government with the Global recession, stock market crash or H1N1.

The Government has in fact found 37-38% is the same level of support they were last year. The opposition has failed to introduce alternative policies to the government agenda. The coalition parties in opposition have been busy fighting with each other trying to grab the most media and painting the current government as some sinister force trying to destroy Canada.

The current government leads almost every METRIC in the latest EKOS Poll. They have a substantial lead in the 45-65+ demographic (highest voter turnout). Quebec is the only province that does give the current government a clear lead. A regional leger poll shows the CPC and the Liberals are tied and the Quebec City beachead is within General Election results of 2008.

The Liberals, NDP have just voted for another Way & Means Bill on December 10, 2009 continuing to demostrate their confidence on the CPC led government. The Supplementary Supply Motion was only opposed by the Bloc. Apparently the coalition is not interested in seeking a mandate from the voters at this time.
