Did the CBC "sand bag" Michael Ignatieff?

Many of you know I do not support the political views of the current leader of the Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff. The interview from the CBC may have been carefully "edited", but  I did not hear the reporter ask a direct question on what team he supported.  The impression from the street interviews of asking for advice and the reluctance of the Liberal leader to offer or second guess the coach. (That's it)

This reminds me on how our National Media became a joke for extrapolating what our PM did as the CAMERA was turned away at a state funeral. The apologies were made with a front page retraction to the PM and the reporters who did not include those comments in their original submission.

Did we repeat the same thing with Michael Ignatieff?

Is our media going to jump on this and repeat the same mistake? ( Are we being set up to pile on for something that was not done?)

I don't know why his Russian Roots, lack of wearing a hockey jersey or his "divided" loyalty was given any credence in the video.

You can decide for yourself.  Two videos available.

My Video (Edited)

  1. One removed 99% comments to focus on the Liberal leader/CBC comments.
  2. Unedited from Liberal Youtube site below.

Did the CBC edit out his comments, was he aware Canada and Norway were playing later this afternoon?

The CBC NOT casting Iggy in a favourable light ?. I don't think so. If anything, he said something even more monumentally stupid, and CBC edited that out.

First, you have to assume that the CBC reporter thought his split loyalty a negative, to come to the "pile on" conclusion.
My conclusion of her recap was that in the world of CBC viewers, there would be nothing wrong with him having split loyalties.

Did the CBC sandbag Ignatieff?
Not if he said it and they edited it out due to it's 'wordy' nature. (as we know he ALWAYS does...on and on and on)
We all know that he doesn't LLLOOOOVVVVEEE this COUNTRY and it shows, regularly.
I guess I could be missing the point but I believe he was not at all sandbagged.

I think what is more telling is his obvious lack of patriotism at any of these events. He has a real hard time participating in the clothing aspect.
FEED THE ECONOMY, IGGY and buy a damn jersey!

Iggy didn't comment on the hockey game because he doesn't know anything about the sport.
The reporter laughed off his comment about being 'betwixt Russia and Canada' and I do wish they would have shown that part. I could almost guarantee that it would show up in Conservative ads during the next election.

How long after the interviews did the gal give her recap, notice she is in different clothes.

Dang it, erased my own comments!

I am curious if the CBC did what CTV failed to do. Do you remember how CTV went ahead and released the Dion flubbed interview regarding what he would do differently?

Did they edit out his comments about the Russian hockey team? If not, why enter comments about who him being pragmatic and divided?

Bec, hmmm! Buy? liberals? they take not give. And Ignatieff is just following the tradition.

If Ignatieff or any of them were interested in the 'feeding the economy' as you put it, the missing millions of dollars and more would have been returned months ago.Right?
Ignatieff in my opinion like the prime minister and like many of us, don't give two beans about CBC.
He like us, find the CBC to be very immature for his and our level.

"we stand on guard for thee"

Well, CBC stand on guard for the liberals.

In April, 2008, the Montreal Canadiens were about to play the Boston Bruins in round 1 of the playoffs. Dion came marching into a scrum, bragging (in French) how he was making an annoucement as the minister from Monreal, and how he was the Canadiens "number one fan", blah blah.

Then he proceeded to predict the Habs would beat the NEW YORK RANGERS in the first round !

LOL

The ppg reporters had a chuckle, then kept asking him "Do you know who the Canadiens are playing ?". Dion ignored them, he must have figured that he screwed up, so he kept blabbing about how great Montreal was. Then it sounds like a sympathetic ppg reporter whispered "they're playing Boston".

Watch the video here

Starts right away with Dion

Bec, just caught the clip, holy crap, did the CBC remove it, would he have been that inept and not said team Canada?

I don't think Iffy could be tha dumb to go off script and state he was torn between Russian and Canada.

Check out last night's Connect segment with Mark Kelley to see how the CBC treats Harper. The whole thing was titled Harper Plays Politics in Haiti and Kelley was saying he was ashamed of our prime minister for mentioning the fact that we now have heavy-life planes available to do rapid relief work.

I did a whole blog post on who Iggy would be cheering for in the Olympics over a week ago.

"Be warned Canada, a Red Army of Russian athletes are descending on Vancouver as we speak with the malicious intention of owning our podium. Who will Ignatieff be cheering for? Well he did once write: “Between my two pasts, the Canadian and the Russian, I felt I had to choose,” “I chose the vanished past, the past lost behind the revolution. I could count on my mother’s inheritance: it was always there. It was my father’s past that mattered to me, because it was the one I had to recover, to make my own.”
