Do they honestly believe these anarchists would be more kindly disposed towards "the state" if the NDP was in power, in BC, in Manitoba, in Nova Scotia or in Ottawa. It didn't stop Baader-Meinhof in its murderous assault upon German Social Democracy and its representatives, including the politicians who governed and the judges who sentenced them. It's a matter of degree before this current crop cross that line between torching a hotel in Strasbourg and taking some lives in violent confrontation with " the state".
In their anarchist publications they refer to what they consider to be "sensible" acts of arson and destruction: banks, supermarkets, gas stations, x-rated video outlets. Quite, exactly how the Squamish Five started out.
The violence is premeditated, not merely anticipated but actively sought. It's akin to an person with a ski mask or with a nylon stocking over his head committing armed robbery in a gas station convenience store, claiming it was not premeditated violence but rather spur of the moment shoplifting.
Dave R interviewed the Police Chief of Vancouver and he said one of those arrested was from the US and has been deported asap.
He also said the main purpose of the black clad protesters is to get the police to react with violence, and they haven't had much success. Some of the regular (for lack of a better word) protesters are giving up for fear of being arrested. Chief thinks things will calm down and the worst is over.
We will see.
